Sometimes meeting another person changes our life. As a child, Charles Dickens had to face a difficult reality when his father was arrested for debt and he himself had to start working twelve hours a day in a shoe factory. This difficult experience left a mark on the writer, who documented social injustice and poverty in his work (including “Oliver Twist”). “Everyone is his own friend, my dear,” the old man said philosophically.
